It doesn’t cost a dime. You don’t have to drive anywhere to pick it up. It requires no equipment or assistance. There is no right or wrong way to engage in it. Silence. It is golden.

How about you? What happens to you when you give yourself the gift of silence?

I’ve come to the conclusion that as wonderful as fine music is, that silence is the most beautiful of sounds…especially the silence when one is out in nature…

    Shhh!

On days that I am particularly busy and have a lot of noise in my head, music is the gateway to my silence. There is someting magical about being still and silent after the last note.

I agree, nature provides the most amazing music. One of my favorite things is the sound of gravel crunching underneath my feet and the sound of my breath while hiking/walking.

The silence I cherish are in the mornings before I get out of bed and everyone is still sleeping. I loved the “take back your mornings” post because in those silent moments I can think about how I can be intentional about the morning or day if i get far enough. Although Christmas music seems to help balance out my kids noises so that has to stay on during the day. Mornings are my time right now.

I used to hate silence, and would fill it with music, TV, phone calls, whatever it took! But in the last few years, I’ve come to cherish silence more than almost anything. At the end of the day, after my four kids are in bed and the phone has stopped ringing and the emails have stopped coming in, the silence and stillness feels almost like a reward! I’m going to try your suggestion of spending some time focusing on the things I am grateful for. I think it will be a great addition the silence. :)
